Day 22

As I was packing the truck the next morning, a van towing a trailer with white water rafts appeared. A group of about 15 people were about to start a river trip. I finished packing and crawled the truck over the rocks beside them on my way out, drawing some interesting looks. Then it was back to the main road and eastward toward Prince George.

At noontime I stopped to eat at the Lakeside Inn. I ordered the halibut, but the whole meal was rather bland.

I am beginning to tire of traveling, and long to be back where I can get a little exercise during the course of the day. The one audio tape that I have with me is beginning to get old, but at least I am starting to receive a few radio stations.

I stopped late in the afternoon and went into the woods to chop a stick 21 inches long. That's the distance from the edge of my seat to the gas pedal. I found some nice, dry, dead aspen and chopped off a piece with the Canadian axe. Then I tried it out. Works pretty good on the level stretches, though you have to adjust it a little with your hand up and down the hills. Gives my legs a break. I'm considering labeling the stick "Cruise Control" on the side.

That night I stayed at the Gold Pan Motel in Quesnel ("kwe-nel").
