Day 24

My li'l sister, Angie, arrives in Tel-Aviv.

9/13/96

This morning I got up and microwaved a slice of mushroom pizza for breakfast. Dov came by the apartment to do some laundry. His car is in the repair shop, though I don't know what is wrong with it. He received several calls from friends and family on his pelephone (cellular telephone) while he was here, and he said "everyone calls everyone on Rosh Hoshana".

As he did laundry, I worked on my powerbook at the kitchen table. I've been thinking about creating a "Comments" section for each web page of this story, which would allow readers to make their own comments about what happened on a certain day, and allow others to see and respond to these comments. I'll let you know if it turns out to be practical or not. Darrell should enjoy this if it works.

Since Dov's car was in the shop, I drove him to pick up something at one place, and then to drop him off at another place. When I got back, it was about 3:00PM, and Angie's flight was scheduled to arrive at 5:00PM. I don't answer the phone at the apartment because I let the answering machine take all of Dov's messages. Therefore I don't really have a phone here, and if I missed Angie at the airport, it would be difficult for us to get in touch with one another, so I showered quickly and got in the rental car to go to the airport in Tel Aviv, about 45 minutes away.

After a couple of wrong turns, I finally made it out of Jerusalem headed in the right direction. I circled the airport about three times looking for the entrance to the parking garage, and proceeded inside to the arrivals area. I still had about a half hour to spare, and I entertained myself by trying to guess which flight different passengers had arrived on - the flights were from all parts of the world.

I spotted Angie and helped her with her bag. She had packed very light, and there really wasn't much to carry. She looked around for Missy, a stewardess that she had met on the flight. Missy was to meet her boyfriend, Ron, who is some sort of rock star in Israel. Angie scanned the crowd, wondering which person could be Ron. She has Missy's phone number in Tel Aviv, so maybe we'll try to contact Missy and Ron later on.

We drove back to Jerusalem and stopped by the apartment to drop off Angie's bags. Angie also took the opportunity to change out of the clothes she had worn the past two days.

Afterwards we drove down to the city center and found an Italian restaurant, not far from the Kurdish restaurant where Zeev and I had eaten the other night. After we were seated, the waiter brought out a dish of palmegranite seeds and a dish of apples and honey to wish us a happy new year.

I had lasagna, and Angie ordered ravioli stuffed with spinach - both of which were very good.

Angie: "Mmm...good!"

We returned to the apartment, and I filled Angie in on the red/blue kitchen rules and the purpose of the mysterious plug-in thingy.
